In this tour you will start from the Red city Marrakech. Then head towards the tallest mountains in Morocco, the high Atlas Mountains. On our way to the highest point of the Tizi Tichka pass (2260 m), you will encounter a breathtaking landscape. On our decent we will proceed to Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou.
Then to the quaint city of Ouarzazate and continue our expedition via the road of a thousand Kasbahs to the Dades valley and Todra gorges. We will then reach the high point of this trip, the Merzouga desert where you will have the night in a berber tent. Finally we will proceed to the Draa Valley before heading back to Marrakech to end our Desert Tour.
You will have an early morning pick up from your hotel/raid to begin your expedition as we set out towards the tallest mountains in Morocco, the High Atlas Mountains. During the drive towards the highest point of the Tizi Tichka (approx 2270m), you will encounter breathtaking scenery at every point of this impressive region with its dense lush greenery and picture perfect views. On our decent we will proceed to the majestic Kasbah of AIt Ben Haddou, one of the best preserved treasures of Morocco. We will then proceed to the quaint city of Ouarzazate and continue our expedition to Agdz. Finally we will proceed to the Draa Valley where you will spend a tranquil evening amidst the splendor of the abundant palm trees.
On Day 2 we will continue through the palm lined Draa Valley to Nekob en route to Merzouga. As we approach the Sarhro Mountains you will undoubtedly notice the abrupt change of scenery to a volcanic landscape while may appear bare and barren actually boasts numerous plants and animals that thrive in this environment. Upon our approach to Merzouga and the desert be on the lookout for the sand dunes visible from the road. We will proceed to Auberge, where we will commence our one hour guided camel trek in the desert to our final destination for the evening in the camp. Here you can view the sun setting over the lush sand of the Sahara desert which will likely be the highlight of your journey and no doubt an unforgettable night.
Not to be missed is waking up before sun rise to watch the sun illuminating the sand dunes of the desert oasis. Afterwards, we will return to Merzouga for breakfast and a shower. Newly refreshed, we will spend the day exploring the Tuaregs and Nomad region where we will visit the ancient city of Rissani as well as old ruins of Kasbahs. During your visit you may also hear the descendants of black slaves playing the rythmic drums of the Gnawa music typical of this region.
In the afternoon we will continue to Tinerhir on our way to the Todra Gorge. The Todra Gorge, one of the most impressive sights in Morocco, is carved out by the Todra river, forming cliff-sided canyons through the mountains and the end the gorge narrows to a flat stony track as little as 10m wide in certain places with sheer and smooth rock walls. Definatley a vision to lay eyes upon. Hotel rooms in cave, dinner.
Our journey today will take us to likewise impressive Gorge of Dades which freely flows through the red and brown rocks and will surely leave a lasting impression. We will then proceed through the aromatic Rose Valley, Kella Mgouna overflowing with roses in April and May. Our journey will take us through the Road of Thousand Kasbahs where we will continue through Ouarzazate and the High Atlas Mountains and head back to Marrakech to end our tour of authentic Morocco.
